Artists are being urged to register and/or ensure that their contact and payment details are up to date, so that they can easily be found and paid if a royalty is collected for them. The scheme applies to living artists, and artists who have died in the last 70 years. Copyright Agency manages the scheme who collects an administrative fee up to 10% of the royalty collected.

Topics that will be covered include:

    – Resale royalty

    – Basic copyright

    – Copyright Agency/Viscopy membership

    – Copyright Agency Cultural Fund

Copyright Agency is a not for profit rights management organisation, who enables the use of text and images in return for fair payment to writers, visual artists and publishers. This includes managing the Viscopy business: services to artists and users of images.

I had an exciting day yesterday after I participating in Free Art Friday – Newcastle. We encouraged Hunter Arts Network artists to leave their artworks around the streets for anyone to find & keep for FREE! I dropped four drawings, at Charlestown square, Merewether Pedestrian Underpass, Obelisk & Civic Park Fountain & I heard from this finder soon after, they sent me a lovely email! I haven’t heard from the other finders yet. I was stoked that Charlestown square shared my photo of the drawing I left in their carpark & appearing in this article in The Herald! http://www.theherald.com.au/story/1350835/free-art-scattered-around-newcastle/?cs=303

  • Autumn Art Bazaar next weekend

    art bazaar fb cover

Following on the great success of four seasonal art bazaars in 2012, Autumn Art Bazaar is returning to the grounds of Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery on Sunday 10 March 2013 from 10am – 3pm.

The Gallery and Lake Macquarie Council loved hosting last year’s event and are keen to build the crowd numbers year upon year. Enjoy a great day out in the gallery grounds while taking in the beautiful lake views.

Art Bazaar features a variety of premium handmade products from over 100 local Hunter Arts Network (HAN) artists including fashion, jewellery, accessories, fine art, photography, sculptures & homewares. HAN is a non-profit membership of Artists, Designers, Jewellers and craft people from the Hunter region.

2013 is the second year of seasonal Art Bazaars which has stimulated the arts community and increased public awareness of the Hunter’s diverse artistic culture, successfully displaying the many individuals, groups, organisations and businesses.

The Hunter’s premier artisan & design marketplace, Art Bazaar, is the ideal platform for the community to invest in locally produced visual arts, craft & design, including professional practitioners, who will have their work showcased in a supportive and creative atmosphere.

Shoppers will enjoy meeting the artists & designers who have carefully created for the reputable event providing access beyond the boundaries of the gallery. The warm & friendly setting allows for stallholders to always be approachable to chat about their work. It is an affordable opportunity for both the public & the creative people of Newcastle & the Hunter. Enjoy the atmosphere of a world class Gallery and meet the Artisans of the Hunter. “Newcastle has a fantastic art scene however not everyone will enter galleries, so Art Bazaar provides the perfect setting for people to see established and emerging Artists in a great environment” said Leah Fawthrop, President of HAN. “Our Artisans practice in a variety of mediums and we also include designers – originality, quality and variety is the key to HAN membership.”

Art Bazaars are FREE entry & there’ll also be demonstrations, loads of parking, food/drinks & ATM’s.
Bring your family along, enjoy inexpensive children’s art activities in the gallery and a barbeque lunch prepared by the Gallery Society. All funds raised by the Gallery Society go towards the purchase of artworks for the gallery’s collection.

    About the Hunter Arts Network

The Hunter Arts Network, better known as HAN, is the peak professional body for the Visual Arts, Craft & Design sectors in the Hunter region.

To represent, promote and develop visual arts, crafts and design with an emphasis on professional practitioners. Our key objectives are:

    • Advocate on behalf of members
    • Promote communication and collaboration between visual arts, crafts and design groups in the Hunter
    • Promote members’ work to established and emerging markets
    • Provide professional development, occupational opportunities and educational services to members
    • Maintain organisational strength and relevance
    • Ensure traditional and contemporary media are represented

Rising from the idea that Newcastle and the Hunter are FULL of creative people producing high quality art, craft and design-based work, Newcastle City Council spent some years facilitating the establishment of HAN to give representation to these people. NCC’s Cultural Development Champion, Stacey Anderson, worked with the community of practitioners to shape the structure and objectives of HAN.

The annual cost for membership is:

    • $50 for an individual
    • $80 for a gallery, business or community organisation
  • Winter Art Bazaar Maitland

There is an amazing event coming up next month – the Hunter’s premier artisan bazaar is being held at Maitland on the long weekend. Art Bazaar is held quarterly by the Hunter Arts Network.

When Hunter Arts Network (HAN) holds their first Winter Art Bazaar there will be over 70 designers & artists spread out on the expansive grounds of the impressive Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG), High St Maitland on Sunday 10 June. The Art Bazaars are FREE entry & there is also demonstrations & live music.

Art Bazaar is the ideal platform for the community to invest in locally produced visual arts, craft & design, including professional practitioners, who will have their work showcased in a supportive and creative atmosphere. TAFE students from the School of Fine Art, are also participating giving them great experience in the commercial realities of the art world.

The popular event has grown & evolved & there is now one Art Bazaar every season, an increase from only one per year. HAN’s first Autumn Art Bazaar in the grounds of Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery was a resounding success for the stallholders, the public and HAN. “We have developed a loyal following which is attracting large crowds to each Art Bazaar every season & the Autumn Art Bazaar received fabulous feedback”, said Leah Fawthrop, President of HAN, “all participants need to go through a formal application process assessed by a panel of Art Professionals in order to participate – this way HAN can guarantee a very high standard.”

Shoppers will enjoy meeting the artists & designers who have carefully created for the reputable event providing access beyond the boundaries of the gallery. It is an affordable opportunity for both the public & the creative people of Newcastle & the Hunter.

There’s the chance to win one of five lucky door prizes. One prize will be drawn every hour. Win marvelous art & dazzling jewellery which has been hand-made by our talented artists & designers.

Enjoy the atmosphere of a world class Gallery and meet the Artisans of the Hunter.  There is an onsite café that will be open serving breakfast and lunch and will also have an extra food stall available in anticipation of the crowds. Only a 30 minute drive west of Newcastle, please make Winter Art Bazaar Maitland, your destination this long weekend.
