Community gives thanks with volunteer awards Dec. 16, 2014, 6:19 p.m.
THANK-YOU: Charlton Volunteer Award recipients. Pictured back, from left, Alwyn Stuckey, John Gill, Arthur Tumeth, Lorraine Doolan, Ross Connolly, Member for Charlton Pat Conroy, Alec Howard, Jason Harvey (on behalf of Lois Simpson), Albert Roberts, and David Price. Front row, from left, Annette Stuckey, Belinda Allan, Tracey Green, Joan Cantwell, Lynette Radley, and Margo Humphries.
WITHOUT their energy, dedication and generosity, it’s difficult to imagine how our community would function.
They are the local volunteers who give so much, yet ask for nothing in return.
And 25 most dedicated local volunteers have received 2014 Charlton Volunteer Awards.
Member for Charlton Pat Conroy said the awards were a way for the appreciative community to say thank-you.
“I know from reading through the nomination forms that these awards are just as, if not more, fulfilling for the people nominating a volunteer for an award because this is their way of saying that what you do is really important and we are grateful,” Mr Conroy said.
The Westlakes recipients:
Senior Volunteers (65 years and over)
Athnee Stanfield, of Cooranbong (Avondale Retirement Village); Lynette Radley, of Windermere Park (Country Women’s Association and Morisset Meals on Wheels); John Gill, of Coal Point (Coal Point Progress Association, Toronto Probus Club, Toronto Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group); and Alwyn and Annette Stuckey, of Wangi Wangi (Westlakes Seniors Computer Club).
Business Volunteers
Carolyn Martin, of Toronto (Mum’s Cottage, West Wallsend).
Environment Volunteers
Alec Howard, of Balmoral (Lake Macquarie Landcare); and Lois Simpson, of Toronto (Lake Macquarie Landcare).
Long-term commitment to Volunteering
Fred and Denise McEnearney, of Boolaroo (John Hunter Hospital); Arthur Tumeth, of Dora Creek (Lions Club Morisset).

We are thrilled to be FINALISTS! Hunter Arts Network is a 2014 QantasLink Hunter and Central Coast Awards for Excellence in Tourism Finalist!
Visitor Economy Hunter and Central Coast Tourism announced last week that Hunter Arts Network (HAN) is one the finalists in the QantasLink 2014 Hunter and Central Coast Awards for Excellence in Tourism.
This year is HANâs first submission for the awards & they are very pleased that they have been selected as a Finalist in the Festivals & Events category.
HANâs submission is for Art Bazaar, which is in itâs 12th year, & is now held three times every year. Art Bazaar maintains a high standard of local work on offer, attracts a lot of visitors to the region, has developed a presence on the art and cultural event calendar of the Hunter and NSW & has increased awareness of the Hunterâs diverse artistic culture. HANâs next Art Bazaar is being held next month at Maitland Regional Art Gallery on Sunday 31 August 2014.
45 individual tourism operators across 21 categories, including the prestigious individual awards for Young Achiever and Outstanding Contribution to Local Tourism, have progressed to become a Finalist in this yearâs awards.
According to Roger Stephan, the Director of Visitor Economy Hunter, the Hunter and Central Coast Tourism Awards are a tremendous opportunity to recognise the high standard, diversity and contribution of the tourism industry in our regions. He said, âThe quality of submissions this year was outstanding and gaining finalist status in itself is a great achievement. The lucky winners of each category will automatically be entered into the State Tourism Awards and will be amongst a small group of truly outstanding tourism businesses and operators deserving of State-wide and national profile.â
Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony and Gala Dinner on Wednesday, 6 August at Wests New Lambton. The Gala Dinner is a spectacular black tie evening for the 300 or more Hunter and Central Coast tourism operators who will celebrate the âtourismâ industry and indulge in local food, wine and entertainment.
