I took part in Newcastle’s Australia Day Market at Honeysuckle in Newcastle today which we organised in collaboration with the City of Newcastle. Despite the day getting off to increasing rainfall, just after the event officially started luckily the rain eased up & we had a mostly fine day, this was followed by a very strong crowd there were thousands there! I had a very successful day selling three paintings as well!

I’m one of the Hunter Arts Network members having a stall at the Newcastle Australia Day Market at Honeysuckle on Monday 26 January 2015 from 10am – 4pm. Here’s some of my paintings I’ll be selling:

Community gives thanks with volunteer awards Dec. 16, 2014, 6:19 p.m.

THANK-YOU: Charlton Volunteer Award recipients. WITHOUT their energy, dedication and generosity, it’s difficult to imagine how our community would function.

They are the local volunteers who give so much, yet ask for nothing in return.

And 25 most dedicated local volunteers have received 2014 Charlton Volunteer Awards.

Member for Charlton Pat Conroy said the awards were a way for the appreciative community to say thank-you.

“I know from reading through the nomination forms that these awards are just as, if not more, fulfilling for the people nominating a volunteer for an award because this is their way of saying that what you do is really important and we are grateful,” Mr Conroy said.

The Westlakes recipients:

Senior Volunteers (65 years and over)

Athnee Stanfield, of Cooranbong (Avondale Retirement Village); Lynette Radley, of Windermere Park (Country Women’s Association and Morisset Meals on Wheels); John Gill, of Coal Point (Coal Point Progress Association, Toronto Probus Club, Toronto Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group); and Alwyn and Annette Stuckey, of Wangi Wangi (Westlakes Seniors Computer Club).

Business Volunteers

Carolyn Martin, of Toronto (Mum’s Cottage, West Wallsend).

Environment Volunteers

Alec Howard, of Balmoral (Lake Macquarie Landcare); and Lois Simpson, of Toronto (Lake Macquarie Landcare).

Long-term commitment to Volunteering

Fred and Denise McEnearney, of Boolaroo (John Hunter Hospital); Arthur Tumeth, of Dora Creek (Lions Club Morisset).

Award recipients were nominated by residents through an application process.

Finite Gallery’s Featured Artist for October 2014 is local Lake Macquarie artist Margo Humphries. The exhibition will run from Saturday 4 October to Sunday 26 October 2014 & all of Margo’s original paintings will be for sale.

Born & raised in Taree Margo has been based in Newcastle since 2003. Margo began painting at a young age & won her first award when she was 12 years old in the Walkom-Manning Art Prize. Margo is passionate about art & displaying her colourful paintings & regularly exhibits at Art Bazaar. Her visual vocabulary has made her well known for her painterly style & vibrant canvases.  In 2011 Margo was one of 10 artists selected for the Mattara Festival’s Outdoor Art Trail, she joined the Hunter Arts Network committee in 2012 & in 2013 Margo was one of the key participants in Free Art Friday – Newcastle

Finite Gallery is located at 55 Caves Beach Rd, Caves Beach & is open Saturdays & Sundays from 10am – 4pm & will also be open on Monday 6 October during this exhibition on the October long weekend. Leslie Duffin launched the gallery in April 2013 & features a selection of beautiful art from local artists and craftspeople. The gallery which is strategically located between Newcastle & Sydney, provides a welcome addition to galleries in beautiful Lake Macquarie & is a haven for fine art.
