The rescheduled date for Hunter Arts Network’s (HAN) fourth annual Lake Macquarie Art Bazaar is Sunday 31 May 2015 & I will be having a stall. HAN was forced to postpone Art Bazaar due to poor weather. Art Bazaar will be returning to the grounds of Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery (LMCAG) from 10am – 3pm. Located on the shores of beautiful Lake Macquarie, this award winning gallery with expansive grounds including Sculpture Park, mosaic pathway & Awaba House Restaurant Café is an exceptional cultural and tourist destination. Hunter Arts Network is thrilled to announce we have received a 2015 Stockland Community Grant!!! Thanks to Stockland Glendale we have received $500 which will go towards promoting our next Art Bazaar at LMCAG on 31 May! See all the winners here: http://www.stockland.com.au/assets/about-stockland/community-grants-winners-240415.pdf A 2014 Finalist in the Hunter & Central Coast Awards for Excellence in Tourism, Art Bazaar has developed into a major art event for the region which now attracts many visitors from out of the area and is the Hunter’s premier artisan and design marketplace. Art Bazaar is a great way to show families and visitors how wonderful our creative community is. HAN is a non-profit membership of artisans from the Hunter who carefully hand pick stallholders to ensure that shoppers have an array of local, handmade, unique, original & quality products, making Art Bazaar an affordable opportunity for both the public & the creative people of Newcastle and the Hunter. Enjoy meeting the artists and designers who have carefully created for the reputable event providing access beyond the boundaries of the gallery. Art Bazaar is free entry. There’s also demonstrations, entertainment, food & drinks, and a quick stroll to LMCAG for children’s art activities and exhibitions including Bodywork: Australian Jewellery 1970-2012 touring from the National Gallery of Australia and a (in)visible: the First Peoples and War showing until 10 May and 24 May respectively. Social Life Magazine interview for Denman exhibition
Social/Life Magazine Newcastle interviewed me yesterday for my current exhibition at Chocolate Hills – Tartuca Espresso Bar Bistro !!
http://www.sociallifemagazine.com.au/#!margo-october-exhibition/c13wr
Is there a particular theme for your paintings displayed at the exhibition? and if so why?
A strong point for my first exhibition in the Upper Hunter is it’s diverse subject & style. The exhibition has a loose theme if any but this has helped in unifying the space in creating an unexpected and total environment in which to view the paintings, the exhibition & venue are in concert!
While not sticking to any one categorization – oscillating between surrealism, realism, abstract & expressionism, the works address topics that are genuinely specific to painting, such as light and composition, & colour which relies on precise calibration and subtle shifts in hue and tone to achieve its impact. I think this makes the exhibition unavoidably take up the space in a fabulous way and be in conversation with one another. I’m sure if they could talk I’d like to think my paintings could sing from the walls!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Seeing other artistic or creative content is inspiring & leads me to paint more, whether it is a real subject or a vision that has flashed into my head. Nature also inspires me, as well as anything that can result in a happy, joyful or cheerful composition.
What kind of materials did you use to create the paintings?
I will use almost anything to achieve the desired finishes, including trimming paint brushes to pretty much only one bristle, skewers, sponges, toothbrushes, shaving brushes, & even eyebrow brushes! I have created a mixture of works on both canvas & paper. I’ve used watercolour & oil but mostly paint with acrylic. More recently I’ve found ink to be a great medium so stay tuned for the unveiling of these works!
Do you have a favourite object, view or theme you enjoy painting?
My work varies a lot from traditional to bringing forth experimental artistic approaches. I paint to my own taste & while not having one classification I draw more attention to the bright, colourful, vibrant, & mostly graphic elements. Topics vary from landscapes, nature, still lifes to abstract.
What do you love about art the most?
I enjoy the journey painting takes me on & the satisfaction when complete. What painting can be is about exploring, escaping, expanding & expressing. I’ve presented a generous body of work locally & having an ambition to produce so much more creativity can only broaden the audience & it’s a great feeling knowing that it is being appreciated.

Margo was born in Taree & moved to Newcastle in 2003 when she was 23 years old. In 2009 Margo & her partner Matthew established their own business, Kasarn Designs, named after their daughter.
From an early age Margo always enjoyed drawing & painting & has found it to be a form of meditation where she enters into another world & feels relaxed & focused. When Margo was only 12 she entered the Walkom-Manning Art Prize where she won the “Children of the Manning” Youth Award with “Wingham Brush”.
Margo taught herself to paint by studying books and other artists’ styles. Margo has developed her own style, painting many different subjects & experimenting with different techniques. Margo has experimented with different media, including watercolour & oil but prefers to work with acrylic. Margo is passionate about art & displaying her colourful abstract & landscape paintings. Margo’s visual vocabulary has made her known for her painterly style & vibrant canvases. The energy in her works appears to be limitless & she loves creating works that you could stare at for hours. For Margo, the creative voyage along the way is equally significant as the outcome.
Margo was selected as one of 10 artists for the Mattara Festival’s Inaugural Outdoor Art Exhibition & her “Look up in the Sky Tonight” was draped over Newcastle Panthers in October 2011. 10 buildings participated in the art trail.
In 2012 Margo’s T-Shirt Design, The Line Up, made the final 20 in Redbubble’s SXSW T-shirt Competition for New York band The Big Sleep. Also last year Margo joined the Hunter Arts Network committee as their “Social Media Guru” & helps in promoting their quarterly Art Bazaars.
Margo has also been involved in many community projects including the 2002 Peoplescape project & designing & creating street banners for Victoria Street in Taree in 1996.
