Embarrassed Watermelon

Embarrassed Watermelon by Margo Humphries

Artist: Margo Humphries
2005
Acrylic on paper

I painted this work as an abstract. In other words I feel that I let myself paint intuitively. I started practicing this style not long after I started painting which was originally in my realisitic style, and I now bounce back and forth from one concept to the other.

The colours and shapes in this painting represent our colourful watermelon fruit friend however watermelons don’t normally blush and cover their face. The painting is reflecting growing on the vine then hearing thump when the fruit is ready, taking great big bites, catching all the drips, spitting out the pips, licking your lips, big, plump, sweet and juicy.
